How to Increase the Ranking of Your Page
By: Darren Dunner

Increasing the page rank of your web site has a lot of advantages. But doing so is a tough job and the competition you are dealing with is extremely huge and growing by the hour. However, there are ways and means to increase page ranks and help is at hand with a vast number of resources that you can use to increase the ranking of your page. All search engines keep updating their search rankings regularly. There are a number of things that a search engine considers when deciding on the rankings of your page. So the best thing you can do is to fortify the components that these search engines consider and keep improving on them. Some tips that will help you increase your search engine page ranking are as follows:

The first step you should take to increase page rank is to submit to search engine directories. You can do this for free on most search engines and thus increase your web presence by being listed on a number of search engines. You also get to create a free link when you do so and increase your chances of getting higher rankings as a result.

Create as many back links as possible. This is the main criteria that Google uses for ranking web pages. The larger the number of back links that you have, the higher your page ranking goes. You can create a number of links by joining forums and giving a link to your web site along with your signature. You get higher rankings if your links are on web sites that are relevant to your own web page. You can get a higher distribution of links by writing and posting articles on other web sites. Articles generally generate a lot of traffic too, thus increasing the value of your link. Starting ezines is also a great method of increasing page rankings by increasing the number of links to your website.

There are a number of resources that will help you know about the kind of keywords that search engines look for. Keep altering the phrases and the language of your web site in order to incorporate these words. Try to put in a good percentage of key words and key phrases when making up content for your web site in order to increase page rank.

Improve the quality of your web site. Search engines rate sites based on their relevance to a particular subject. Make sure that your web site gets regularly updated with new things. Keep it current and try to become a leader in your particular area. Turn your web site into a key resource and you will automatically generate more traffic and better page ranks. This is the long road to increasing page rank, but it makes sure that you get there in the end.

What's New At Google?

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

The world's most popular search engine just keeps chugging along - the little train that could (and did) make billions of dollars and dominate the Internet landscape.

Like a giant tree with a root system extending deep into the earth, Google seeks to expand and diversify far beyond mere online search.

In their quest, the little elves at Google never seem to sleep and toil endlessly to bring us new gadgets and gizmos intended to make our lives better, both online and offline.

These four latest free offerings from Google's Labs http://Labs.Google.com - will help you do everything from organize your thoughts to find the local pizza restaurant's phone number through your cell phone.

** Google Code Search **

This one should have the geeks salivating like Pavlov's dog sniffing out a rump roast!

This new search tool at Google allows you to search for public source code, the lines and lines of code that make your nifty software programs actually function.

Instead of writing all the code themselves, programmers can find and grab huge chunks of code free for the taking.

This makes a great staring point not only for programmers who want a leg up on finishing projects, but also neat for would-be software entrepreneurs who want to surf for ideas.

** Google Voice Local Search **

Ok, I'll admit to some skepticism when I saw that Google would help me find the number for the local barbershop just by talking into my phone.

But Google actually surprised me when I dialed 1-800-GOOG-411.

The phone asked me to say the city and state I wanted to search, and then asked me if I wanted to search by business name or business category.

Once I found the business I wanted, Google went ahead and dialed the number for me.

I found the service no worse than the automated search from the phone company, and Google offers this service FREE.

Well worth a call if you find yourself paying some hefty 411 fees to the phone company or your wireless provider.

** Google Reader **

The jury is still debating whether my dear sweet mother will ever subscribe to an RSS feed (the syndication feeds from blogs, news services, and more), so I'm not sure how universal RSS will ever get.

However, Google doess offer a free RSS reader online that enables you to easily subscribe to blogs, news feeds, and any other RSS feeds you like.

The readers lets you organize your feeds, update, and view them all in one place.

Not as powerful as some readers you pay for, but very functional and hey, you can't beat free!

** Google Notebook **

Google Noetbook is the most recent graduate of the Google Labs.

This handy program allows you to organize your notes and clippings as you travel the web.

Instead of just bookmarking a site in your favorites and trying to remember why you liked it, with Google Notebook, you can highlight what you want and click the "clip" button.

You can then organize your notes however you want and then search through your note text at any time.

You can even share your notes with others. Google Notebook is available through your web browser after you download and install special extensions to help you clip items you find on the Web.

Google Wants To Help You Succeed By: Frank Sousa

All too often, we see Google pictured as the "evil" company who’s just out to get you, and to make your life miserable.

While at times it might seem that way, it's just not true.

No… Google is not going to come banging on your door to sit down next to you and help you design your website, but they do provide a wealth of traffic assistance for the webmaster who’s willing to look for it.

Take the Google sitemaps program for example.

Google wants to know about ALL your pages. When you consider the billions of webpages that are on the Internet now, that’s a daunting task. The way that they discover YOUR pages is by "spidering" your website. This is also called crawling. This is done through automated robots that will look through your website and follow the links to discover other pages. When it does, it puts those pages into a database, which they will use to ultimately decide which page will get listed and which one doesn’t.

If you make this process easy for them, they can reward you with much faster spidering of your website. This is especially advantageous if you have a large website.

Google has a program called their "sitemaps" program. What you do is place a specially formatted XML file on your computer that includes links to all of your web pages, and other information related to your website, such as how often you update your website and so on.

We’ve found that compiling the datafeed the way Google requires it can be a little bit intimidating. There are programs available that will help you to do that.

When you’re building a website, it’s very easy to make a mistake in a link, especially when building a large site. This can be disastrous when Google comes around to view your website and it can hurt you tremendously. The better programs not only spider the site as Google would and builds your Google sitemap.xml file automatically, but if it encounters errors, it gives you an error log so that you can correct the errors BEFORE you submit your sitemap to Google.

This is VERY important. If Google tries to spider a site that has bad or missing links in it, then your chances of being listed in their search engine are VERY slim.

Google’s official website on this subject is at this URL: https://www.google.com/
webmasters/
sitemaps/login
Tou’ll find a good explanation of their sitemap program.

Google sitemaps should be a part of every webmaster’s website submission plan. It does not necessarily help with your search engine positioning or ranking, but it will help you to get all your pages spidered quickly, which is the first step to getting your pages listed in the search engines.
